    Function description
    Function title: sysadmin or apprentice sysadmin
    Reports to: Lead sysadmin (Sloan)
    Responsible for: service and overall system maintenance.
    Purpose of post: To help maintain & improve PRTA services.
    Contacts (who will they deal with): Lead sysadmin (Sloan), Ops Lead, other sysadmins, managers.
    Major duties: Installing/configuring/maintaining services and system applications on Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Debian)

    Person specification:
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Qualities needed to perform the task:
    • Able to contribute 2+ hours per day.
    • Limited programming abilities (bash, python).
    • Ability to understand software systems at a high level.
    • Interested in learning how Linux works.
    • Interested in learning how to use Linux to provide software services.
    Bonus:
    • Experience with Puppet.
    • Experience with containerisation.
    Competency framework:
    Work-related behaviour which is necessary:
    • Organised.
    • Good attention to detail.
    • Defensive approach to problem solving.
    • Ability to work in a team.
